Wiles: Alexander Technique. Life, Business & Executive
Coaching.
The Alexander Technique is a unique, practical method of self-care that has been
taught in this country for over 100 years. You learn to notice and change habits
of unnecessary stress and tension in yourself so that you can regain natural
poise and ease of movement. The benefits of the Alexander Technique can include
help with: posture and poise, improved performance, presentation skills, back
and neck pain, RSI, stress and tension, coping with chronic illness, personal
development, breathing and respiratory problems.
During a long illness as a teenager, I came into contact with the technique through
an introductory class at my local CFE. I was immediately struck by the sense
of peace and wellbeing it gave me and decided to take private lessons, first
in England and later in Australia. As my health improved, I became more and more
interested in how the technique could benefit all aspects of my life - not simply
the recovery from illness. Eventually I decided to follow that interest and to
train to become an Alexander Technique teacher. I followed a three-year STAT
approved* training, firstly at the Alexander Techniek Centrum Amsterdam in the
Netherlands and later at the Constructive Teaching Centre , London. I graduated
in July 2005. Alongside my private practice, I've worked as a teaching assistant
at the Constructive Teaching Centre, at the Arts Educational School, teaching
Alexander Technique to drama students and also at Crisis leading group AT classes.
Class times and costs: 40 minute 1:1 lesson £35, 30 minute 1:1 lesson £27.
I also run low cost lessons on Tuesday afternoons for professional performers,
full-time students, 65+ and those in receipt of means tested benefits. Sessions
must be booked with me in advance and you must provide the movingartsbase with
proof of your concessionary status. Cost: 30 minute 1:1 lesson £15.
