Classes and Workshops Contemporary Dance and Feldenkrais with Simonetta Alessandri Fridays, 5th October – 9th November, 7-9pm - Studio 2 (6 week course) The Feldenkrais Method informs the body in preparation for dancing, improves the efficiency and the organisation of movement and helps us find new modes and vocabulary in dancing. In the ATM (Awareness Through Movement) we will use simple, exploratory movements to free ourselves from unhelpful patterns and discover new functional alternatives. Every class begins with a 30 minute ATM that explores a specific movement principle, then we move on to work with this principle in terms of dance improvisation and sequences of movement. The class will finish with phrases that challenge everyone in class at there own level and include traveling, turning, jumping, falling and changes of dynamic. The class is open to anyone with some movement experience (dance, theater, martial arts) but also for more advanced dancers who are interested in discovering how Feldenkrais can influence their dancing. She studied Contact Improvisation and Improvisation with the foremost teachers: S.Paxton, N.Stark Smith, A.Harwood, J.Hamilton, J.Skinner. She has collaborated as dancer and as choreographer with various choreographers and directors: R.Garrison, G.Summo, R.Gelpi, M.Sambati, G.Nanni. MDA have produced her choreographies she created and was invited to participate in improvisation projects and festivals in Italy and abroad. She has been teaching for 20 years (Contemporary Dance, Contact Improvisation, Improvisation, Feldenkrais). She has kept Contact Improvisation alive in Rome through her classes and jams for the last 10 years. She has taught Professional training at L‚Officina CAD-Roma and regular professional class at IALS-Roma. She recently moved to London and has taught at LCDS, Moving East, Independent Dance and Italia Conti. Back to list
